THE BAEBLE BLOG

  • Lately, Baeble HQ has been all hot to trot over Austin TX rockers, Voxtrot (duh…), and their finally released self-titled full-length record (Out now on Beggars!). Picking up where previous EP efforts left off, the album consists of the kind of ridiculous finger-snapping song craft that has got us all thinkin’, “How did they write the perfect pop song…over and over and over again?”

Yet to catch on to them? Consider this your perfect opportunity. Head on over to the bands MySpace Page…you’ll be glad you did. Then, once you are done with that, consult the list of tour dates below, and buy buy buy their tickets!

  • Yesterday we touched on Ryan Adams’ unfortunate accident prone ways. Today we’ll ignore the Carolina klutz and his history of slippery spills and focus on that damn good music he also has a refreshing habit of putting out. Recently the good folks at Lost Highway released two tracks off of Ryan’s upcoming album, Easy Tiger. While these are but frustrating snippets, the songs offer a pretty good indication of where Ryan is going with his 9th solo release.

Big ups to An Aquarium Drunkard for spotting this!

  • Excellent news for the “6th borough”. LCD Soundsystem and MySpace have teamed up to bring you…the beautiful people of Philadelphia (and anyone else willing to travel there)…a fabulously rambunctious kind of freebie show. Want in on the party? It’s easy. Here is all you have to do:

    1. Add LCD Soundsystem and The List to YOUR Top Friends.

    2. Send a MESSAGE to The List with your name/e-mail answering this question:

Q: What does DFA (James Murphy's Record label) stand for?

    3. Once you're on The List we'll send an e-mail with venue info and instructions on how to pick up your tickets for you and one guest.

While on the subject of LCD Soundsystem, James Murphy has also recently released a batch of new singles, exclusively available at ITUNES. Available in 1, 3, and 4 track bundles, the single for “All My Friends” features a variety of remixes and B-Sides.

    4-track bundle:
    All My Friends (album version)
All My Friends (Franz Ferdinand version)
All My Friends (John Cale's version)
    No Love Lost

    3-track bundle:
    All My Friends (album version)
    Freak Out / Starry Eyes
    All My Friends (Harvey Mix)

  • Imagine yourself at the not quite ripe age of 22, kicking off shows for the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Magic Numbers, Neko Case, and Sean Lennon. It’s a fairytale kind of story, but one Alison Sudol, aka A Fine Frenzy, finds herself at the center of the plot to. This summer, the recent Virgin Records signee will be hitting the roads in support of both the singing/songwriting behemoths she will be opening for, and her record One Cell in the Sea.

“A Fine Frenzy is the music of a young woman whose musical skills, creative spirit, and beguiling good looks bring to mind a youthful Tori Amos. Inspired by bands such as Aqualung, Radiohead and Coldplay. Alison developed the sound of A Fine Frenzy - hypnotic piano arrangements under classical American melody fused into irresistible, atmospheric songs, but comparisons don't do justice, because A Fine Frenzy brings its own beautiful, enigmatic and the real singer/songwriter style.”

  • When it comes to Ryan Adams, even gripping a freshly printed ticket between your firm little fingers is never a sure bet you’ll ever get to see the Heartbreaker do what he does live. Few musicians can lay claim to the endless list of gig-killing circumstances that have befallen Adams over the years. Wicked wrist injuries, tumbles off the stage, Japanese Flu bugs, infected cysts in the ear canal…It’s safe to call Ryan a tour manager’s worst nightmare.

So when we heard the singer got mixed up with a skateboard, a twelve foot concrete bowl, and a newly torn ligament…we figured it was once again time to tear up some tickets.

But, thanks to the fine guitar work of Neal Casal, the show will go on. Phew…we thought we’d have to fire up the shredder once again…

Pick up Ryan Adams 9th(!) solo record, Easy Tiger,Tuesday, June 26th. Listen to cuts from the record HERE.

  • August 21st might be many months off. ‘Course that doesn’t mean you need to sweat out the summer without hearing any new material from Vancouver’s rousing pop outfit (I hear they are a super group…), The New Pornographers. Why, just today we got word that the fine folks at Matador are offering up an initial taste of what’s to come.

From the forthcoming CD/LP, Challengers, listen to “My Rights Versus Yours” Now!

Also, the label has teamed up with a variety of retail outlets to offer its’ fourth installment of “Buy Early Get Now”. Order Challengers a tad on the early side you can expect to be rewarded with a variety of added goodies (mp3s, posters, merch, contests, etc) to tide you over until the record “drops”. For more information, click HERE.

Finally, the band will be playing a few shows this summer, highlighted by a July 4th show at NYC’s Battery Park (Yes! Canadians celebrating the American Independence!) and an appearance at The Pitchfork Festival in Chicago on July 15th.

  • Hey all,

This week we've got tons of stories of good times and grand events! On Tues, May 15th, Push Play Episode 3 went down at Luna Lounge, with two amazing live performances by DEAD COMBO and YOUNG LORDS. On Mon, May 14th, we filmed an awesome show at Bowery Ballroom w/ MANDO DIAO! (Look for the show on our site in a few weeks.)

Last but not least, we're big fans of the NY based music blog, The Music Slut, and we've hooked up with them for their two year anniversary celebration on Sat, June 9th. We'll be filming Matt and Jen while they interview the bands, their friends and fans. They have a grand event planned with live performances by The Lisps, The Glass, and The Gaskets and it's completely FREE if you RSVP!!

  • Every band should have a proper place to call home. And for veteran Merge recording artists The Ladybug Transistor, that comfort lies in their fabled, Victorian Brooklyn headquarters, Marlborough Farms. A gathering place for musicians Ladybug has befriended over the years, the space recently played host to a plenty of quality collaborations…the results of which can be heard on the band’s latest album, Can’t Wait Another Day.

Featuring warm contributions from members of Aislers Set, Architecture in Helsinki, The Clientele, Jens Lekman, Kevin Barker (Vetiver), Heather McIntosh (Circulatory System) and others, the release of Can’t Wait Another Day is a gloriously conceived collection of harmonious pop music that hopefully offers singer/songwriter Gary Olson and the rest of the band a chance to move on from the tragic death of drummer San Fadyl, back in April of ‘07.

Can’t Wait Another Day will be available starting June 5th, 2007.

Listen to “Three Days From Now” HERE.

For more information about The Ladybug Transistor please visit the band’s website HERE, or Merge Records HERE.

  • And the roll out of quality complimentary shows continues, with The Village Voice announcing the line-up of the annual Coney Island indie extravaganza known as the Siren Festival. Set against a unique backdrop of The Cyclone, The Wonder Wheel, beach, sand, and surf (ok…sketchy beach, sand, and surf) and no doubt fueled by piles of Nathan’s Hot Dogs and crinkle cut fries, the festival is now operating in its’ 7th year. Featuring a lusty group of international, national and local bands, as well as DJs performing on two outdoor stages, we suggest you not miss this one…especially considering Astroland’s unfortunate fate with a wrecking ball at the end of the season…

    Scheduled To Perform:
    NEW YORK DOLLS
    WE ARE SCIENTISTS
    MATT AND KIM
    THE BLACK LIPS
    DR. DOG
    NOISETTES
    LAVENDER DIAMOND
    THE DETROIT COBRAS
    ELVIS PERKINS
    THE TWILIGHT SAD
“and many more yet to be announced!”

  • “An Extraordinary piece of music…. A debut that will endure.” – NME

“The Back Room is a restless, spooky masterpiece” - Spin (40 Best Albums of 2006)

“I feel like Editors’ debut album has shocked everyone with just how stunning it is. The more I spin their songs, the more I realize just how good this band is. Editors have what it takes to be the break out artist everyone is talking about.” – Nic Harcourt, KCRW

Just a small dose of what some were saying about Editors 2006 debut record, The Back Room. So it comes with no surprise that the English band’s follow-up, An End Has a Start (Epic/FaderLabel) will be one of this summer’s most highly anticipated releases…and Baeble Blog is all too happy to provide all the details.

    Direct from Editors HQ:
“Recorded in Ireland at Grouse Lodge with the Grammy Award winning producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee (U2, Green Day, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party), An End Has A Start reinforces the visceral power of Editors’ music and emphasizes the band’s desire to stretch themselves musically, lyrically, and conceptually. Whilst their debut album, The Back Room, seethed with claustrophobic menace and icy grandeur, An End Has A Start sees lead singer and lyricist Tom Smith more focused on the power of redemption and the human necessity for friendship and family in the face of death. Tom explains: “Realizing everything comes to an end is important and I think we’ve done our best to make it something glorious and uplifting as well as scary.” Tom is keen to stress, however, that not all is bleak in Editors’ world as they deftly balance the dark with the light, culminating in a sound that is both cathartic and deeply passionate. The record also reflects the hectic touring of the last two years that saw Editors play everywhere from Istanbul to Osaka: “Living in an over-populated but exciting world, the buzz of the city, electricity, neon, lights, skyscrapers, planes, billions of people all run through the lyrics of songs on the record.””

AN END HAS A START’ TRACKLISTING:
    1. Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors
    2. An End Has A Start
    3. The Weight Of The World
    4. Bones
    5. When Anger Shows
    6. The Racing Rats
    7. Push Your Head Towards the Air
    8. Escape The Nest
    9. Spiders
    10. Well Worn Hand
